Non-Executive Director

  • Organisation: Swim England
  • Salary: Unpaid role, expenses covered
  • Contract: 1-2 days per month, inclusive of 6-7 board meetings per year.
  • Closing Date: 08 March 2021 | Non Executive Director

Our vision: A nation swimming. Our mission: Creating a happier, healthier and more successful nation through swimming. Our Cause: Every child learns, every community enjoys and every medal inspires.

Swim England is striving to create a happier, healthier and more successful nation through swimming and aquatic activity. We strive to inspire everyone to enjoy the water in the way that suits them. As the recognised national governing body for swimming, artistic swimming, diving and water polo in England, we help people learn how to swim, enjoy the water safely, and compete in all our sports.

We are now seeking an Independent Non-Executive Director to join our Board and help us drive forward our vision of a nation swimming. With strong values based around quality, purpose, togetherness, fun and resourcefulness, we are looking to connect with inclusive and inspirational leaders with the commitment and ambition to promote and enable our mission. With demonstrable strategic acumen and a collaborative leadership style, candidates will be proactive in considering the views and needs of others, sourcing and fully evaluating all options and opportunities and challenging the status quo. They will show deep appreciation of all stakeholders and bring balanced judgement and expert analytical skills, celebrating diversity at all times.

Having conducted a robust skills audit, Swim England are particularly keen to source those who have knowledge, insight and understanding of communities who are not positively engaged in swimming currently and/or professional experience driving equality, diversity and inclusion outcomes; those with connections, experience and understanding of the national public health agenda; and those with commercial acumen and a track record of driving income diversification. Experience in aquatic or membership sports is not essential, but a passion and dedication to supporting our future and goals will be. Applicants who bring knowledge and skills from other sectors to share best practice and continuously improve our relevance and reach would be welcomed.

The role is voluntary but expenses in line with Swim England’s policies will be reimbursed. The average time commitment is 1-2 days per month, inclusive of 6-7 board meetings per year. At present, due to the Pandemic, board meetings are being held virtually. Board meetings are usually attended in person at the head office: SportPark, Loughborough University Campus, Loughborough, Leicestershire.

The deadline for applications is midday on Monday 8 March 2021.

Swim England is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are committed to inclusion and embrace the spirit of all equalities legislation. Where possible we will always make reasonable adjustments for accessibility to anyone who requires it.
