Trustees

We are seeking the appointment of up to three Trustees during 2020 and 2021. We are looking to appoint at least one individual with a professional financial/accountancy experience or qualifications. Two further generalist appointments are intended to support the overall awareness, skills, experience and diversity of the organisation.

Trustee positions are for a maximum of three terms of three years. Trustee roles are voluntary but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Board member feedback indicates being a Trustee provides experience in Strategic Planning, Commercial Development, Financial Planning, Charity Regulation and Market Development (Education) with 100% of Trustees reporting they enjoy their role.

Board meetings are usually held quarterly in Milton Keynes or London but with increasing use of video-conferencing, geographical location or travel difficulties will not be a barrier to participating fully in the work of the Trustees.

Board meetings are supported by the Audit, Risk and Compliance sub-committee which also meets four times per year to provide greater oversight of financial and regulatory matters.

Our Honorary President is Baroness Grey-Thompson DBE, Paralympian and Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords.

What are we looking for?

  • A strong and visible passion for the charity, its aims and objectives and the development of life-skills for young people.
  • Good inter-personal and relationship building skills and the ability to listen and engage effectively.
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy, strong networking capabilities that can be utilised for the benefit of the charity.
  • Ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment with the Board and Executive.
  • Willingness to commit time to the role, including ad-hoc advice and guidance and attending meetings and events.

What experience or knowledge do we believe is essential within the roles as a Trustee? 

  • We are looking to appoint at least one individual with a professional financial/accountancy experience or qualifications. 
  • We would also welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines, both specialist and generalist. 
  • There is no requirement to have previous board or trustee experience, but the role will require the ability to advise and operate at a strategic level. 

What experience or knowledge do we believe is desirable?

  • Knowledge of charity governance and working with or as part of a board of trustees.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the education sector.
  • Experience of commercial or corporate development.
  • Knowledge of awarding organisations. 
  • Awareness of Sport for Development and/or interest in youth skill development or youth volunteering and social action.
