Director – Sport and Student Experience

We are seeking a values-driven leader to advocate and champion the benefits of sport and enrichment activities for all students in colleges. You will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities


1. Responsible for the strategic development and sustainable resourcing of AoC policy and services that aim to develop and enhance the student experience through sport and physical activity and other activities.


2. Provide advice and input to the Board in the formulation of strategy and plans. Lead the execution of strategy, monitoring and reporting on progress and taking responsibility for all operational deliverables as well as the overall performance (financial and strategic) of AoC Sport and other enrichment services.


3. Act as the primary interface between AoC and relevant external stakeholders/partners; building on new and existing relationships to identify shared priorities and optimise opportunities to position AoC as a key delivery partner.


4. Advocate and champion the benefits of sport and other enrichment activities for young people in colleges in delivering improved self-esteem, interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, learning outcomes and employability.

5.Working with colleges enhance the quality of the student experience through the creation and development of opportunities for all students who wish to participate in sport and physical activity and other enrichment activities.

6. Attract and sustain new strategic partnerships from public, commercial and private sectors, using influence to inspire and engage external stakeholders with AoC’s vision and ambition for students.
7. Work collaboratively across AoC as part of the wider senior management team, ensuring that everything we do as an organisation is focused on supporting our members in offering high quality experiences to students.

8. Responsible for planning and managing resources to deliver long term sustainability of services to members, including:


• Working with the Finance Director and Chief Operating Officer to oversee budgets as approved by the Board.
• Attracting funding and sponsorship to ensure the long-term financial health and sustainability of services delivered to members in the areas of sport and student experience, working with relevant functional heads as required (e.g. Projects, Sponsorship, External Relations).
• Maintaining an effective staffing structure for the functional area, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly defined; setting standards for consistent people management across the department in line with AoC policies, culture and values; and developing the team to maximise their potential and deliver organisational needs.

9. A figure head at the organisation, providing full management leadership and direction to managers and staff within functional area and beyond. Provide effective line management of direct reports, managing their performance and developing them to achieve their potential.

10. Responsible for overseeing and continuously developing membership of AoC Sport, ensuring that levels of membership and satisfaction are maintained/increased.

11. Any other reasonable duties as directed by the line manager.

 

 

This role can be based at any of our AoC offices and will involve regular travel to London and at least fortnightly travel to Stoke-sub-Hamdon. Travel to other locations across the UK for meetings with members, staff and stakeholders will also be required based on business needs.
