Policy Officer

Salary: Up to £28,000

Location: London

ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for a Policy Officer who has an appetite to tackle some of the big policy challenges facing the sport and recreation sector and to support our members to become fit for the future.

If you have excellent analytical and communication skills, fantastic attention to detail and a flexible approach – we would love to hear from you. As part of a small but focused team you will work on key sports policy issues and provide advice and assistance to our members and stakeholders. You will work with the Head of Policy and the wider policy and communications teams to make sure our members’ interests are protected and promoted through engagement with government officials, parliamentarians and other sector stakeholders.

This a busy role and represents a really good chance to learn and make your mark. The environment is very positive and fun as you would expect in a sporting organisation, but we work hard.

As a member of our team, you’ll be doing everything you can to help deliver our strategy. And we’ll be doing everything we can to support you every step of the way. We’re committed to helping all of our staff develop their skills and reach their full potential. From face-to face training to networking and volunteering – you’ll have all the opportunities you need to make the right moves for you. We know the postholder won’t start with expertise in all these areas and we will help develop your knowledge.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the team’s Head of Policy to deliver the policy elements of the Alliance’s overall organisational strategy and operational plan;
  • Supporting the Alliance’s policy work in a range of areas including but not limited to: professional and elite sport, tax and fiscal policy, children and young people, outdoor recreation and the contribution of sport to wider economic and social policy objectives;
  • Scrutinising emerging policy and legislative proposals and monitoring policy developments which impact upon the sector and our members;
  • Drafting documents including briefings, reports, ministerial correspondence, Select Committee submissions and consultation responses, including on the above issues;
  • Engaging with our members and providing detailed advice and guidance on specific policy issues as required;
  • Undertaking desk-based research on topical policy issues affecting the sport and recreation sector;
  • Developing and maintaining effective contacts in appropriate government departments, agencies and member sport and recreation organisations;
  • Providing secretariat support to member groups and representing the Alliance on relevant external working groups and at events;
  • Managing specific policy-related projects and campaigns as required;
  • Any other duties as reasonably required by Line Manager.
