Job Description

Sport England, the Government’s lead agency for community sport in England, is seeking to recruit an independent non-Board member to its Audit, Risk and Governance Committee. The Committee’s function is one of oversight. It supports the Board in ensuring that the financial statements are properly prepared and audited, that the organisation has an effective risk management system and that funds invested are used for the purpose intended.

The Committee currently consists of three Sport England Board members and one independent non-Board member.

Sport England is seeking a candidate with an enthusiasm for good governance and an interest in sport, combined with proven expertise and senior level experience in one or more of the following fields:

• Financial management in the public sector
• Audit committee experience (regular attendance at a committee as an executive would be sufficient)
• Corporate governance in the private sector or charitable organisations or public sector
• Performance, Risk and Control management
• Internal and/or external audit
• The operation of arms-length Government bodies

An accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc.) is an essential requirement for this role, previous non-executive experience is not required.

Sport England actively promotes diversity in employment and sport and welcomes applications from all parts of the community.

Time Commitment

Committee members will be expected to attend about six meetings each year, and each meeting typically runs to about three hours. Additional time will be required for preparatory work.

Term of Appointment

The appointment will be for an initial period of up to three years.
