Disciplinary Panel Members

Salary: Voluntary plus expenses

Location: London

Job Summary

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is the National Governing Body for tennis in Great Britain, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, and is responsible for developing and promoting the sport while safeguarding the integrity of tennis. The vision for The Lawn Tennis Association is “tennis opened up”; and the mission for all those involved in delivering this vision is to grow tennis by making it relevant, accessible, welcoming and enjoyable.

The LTA are currently looking to recruit new members for our Disciplinary Panel whose role it is to ensure that all disciplinary matters arising from the grassroots through to elite game are dealt with in accordance with the rules and regulations for the game, and to protect the reputation of the LTA and the game through clear, consistent and fair decisions.

We are seeking individuals with solid knowledge of disciplinary proceedings and of sitting on disciplinary or similar panels, specifically within the sporting landscape, and with experience of making reasoned and justifiable decisions based on rigorous assessment and analysis of evidence. A thorough understanding of the rules and regulations for tennis is essential and knowledge of the structure of the sport at national, county and club level would be desirable. Whilst not being a mandatory requirement of all Panel members, we do require a number of members of the Panel to be current or former members of the judiciary, QCs, junior barristers or solicitors of more than 10 years standing experience, so applicants with this background would be welcomed.

The expectation is that each panel member will be asked to sit on 1 to 2 occasions per year but this will vary depending on availability of other panel members and upon the number of cases to be heard. Cases are generally heard by three Panel members. Cases mainly deal with allegations of misconduct by players or their parents, coaches or officials. This is a voluntary role and as such is not accompanied by financial remuneration, although reasonable expenses may be claimed.

Please note, the Panel members have to be independent of the LTA (please refer to the end of the job description to review the criteria for independence).
