Medical & Sport Science Coordinator

Salary: £20,000 - £23,000 per annum

Location: Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lakes, Caversham

Job Purpose

To act as the first point of contact for all medical and sport science administration and to provide specific administrative support to the Chief Medical Officer for GB Rowing Team (GBRT) Programme. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who wants to assist with the challenge of streamlining the Performance Support administrational processes within our Performance directorate.

Responsibilities

Medical Administrator

  • Ensuring that all rower records are kept up to date, including GP registration, immunisations, treatment or referral records, supplements.
  • Carry out any relevant medical logistical plans and associated communications.
  • Deal with appointment or consultation logistics.
  • General administration for the Chief Medical Officer; letter writing, email communication and possible dictation.
  • Administration of Medical Insurance for APA rowers in the World Class Programme
  • Liaison with relevant outside agencies as necessary including UKAD, UK Sport, BOA, BPA and the Berkshire Independent Hospital.
  • Administration of First Aid & Basic Life Support Training
  • Administration of the GBRT Medicine Policy

Sport Science & Medicine Support

  • Budget tracking for Sport Science and Medicine, including the processing of orders and invoices
  • Coordination of the Sport Science and Medicine team support rota cover at assessments, trials, training camps and competitions as required
  • Coordination of the Performance Support Leadership meetings, including the production of agendas and minutes
  • Coordination of the annual Performance Support Conference, and assistance in the co-ordination of annual reports
  • Coordination of the Performance Support equipment and supplies required for training centres, camps and competitions in liaison with the Head of Performance Support, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Performance Facilities & Equipment;
  • Liaison with suppliers and ensuring supplies and equipment are re-stocked/serviced as necessary
  • Being fully conversant with the WADA Anti-Doping Code, to follow UKAD’s and British Rowing’s requirement on Team Support personnel to set a good personal example in this
  • field and to inform athletes of the Code’s application to them and to influence them in following a ‘drug-free’ culture.
  • Present a positive image of British Rowing, GBRT and the sport of rowing at all times, and wear GBRT clothing as appropriate.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as and when required by British Rowing.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Appreciate that projects need to be completed, methodical approach with an ability to work under pressure.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience within the medical field – this does not need to be within sports.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, when required.
  • Strong written and numeracy skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good team worker.
  • Experienced in working with diverse teams.
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Self-motivated, forward thinking and creative.

Additional Information:

Anti-Doping The post-holder is expected to be fully conversant with the core requirements of the WADA Anti-Doping Code and its requirement on coaches and Team Support personnel to set a good personal example in this field. When directly working with athletes the post-holder has a responsibility to inform them appropriately of the Code’s application to them and to influence them in following a ‘drug-free’ culture.

Hours The post-holder’s hours will be flexible to reflect the needs of the role and, while maintaining an appropriate work/life balance, will include time in evenings, at weekends and over public holidays. Standard working hours are 40 hours a week although flexibility is required in order to ensure core objectives are achieved. National travel may be required.
