Equality Steering Group Member (Voluntary)

Salary: Voluntary

Location: Wales

We want paddlesport to be for everyone - but unfortunately, we know that there are barriers to participation which can make it harder for some people to get on the water. As part of our approach to tackling these problems, Canoe Wales has formed a new Equality Steering Group which will meet 2-3 times a year to advise the Board of Directors and Staff on the Canoe Wales Equality Action Plan, make recommendations to improve opportunities for underrepresented groups in paddlesport, and monitor implementation of the Canoe Wales Equality Policy.

We are currently seeking new members to join the Steering Group - and we would ideally like to see representatives of a wide range of underrepresented groups, including women, disabled people, LGBT people, people from BMW communities, native Welsh speakers and people from low-income communities. While some related project or paddlesport experience is desirable, we would like to encourage applications from anyone with a passion for equality in sport and a unique perspective on the barriers people might face.

Volunteers will need to attend meetings as required (2-3 times per year, normally 1-2 hours with the possibility of attending via videoconference if required) and ideally will be able to volunteer additional hours from time to time at any special events, though this is not essential.

This is a voluntary position and no remuneration will be paid for carrying out these duties, although all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
