Schools Officer

Salary: £21,000 - £25,000 (dependent on experience)

Location: Milton Keynes

Job Summary

This role will be instrumental in making table tennis in schools a great place to come and play the sport for young people, for both our existing players and for someone new to the sport. It will also involve working with clubs and leagues to ensure that suitable regular playing opportunities are available.

The job will involve leading on the delivery of the very succesful Jack Petchey Table Tennis Programme, which is based in schools across London and Essex and attracts up to 7000 participants annually. It will also include working closely with the newly formed Schools Committee to drive the development of table tennis in schools across England.

We are looking for a highly organised individual that is passionate about making a difference in physical activity and sport, and excited about the opportunity of working closely with schools, table tennis clubs and leagues to engage more young people playing table tennis. We are a Governing Body that is keen to try new things that will help build better experiences for our members, as well as engaging new participants into the sport.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and develop relationships with key partners including the Jack Petchey Foundation, Sport England and the Youth Sport Trust and develop new partnerships to enhance and support the sport.

• Lead and manage the Jack Petchey Foundation project; lead the project working group, manage and coordinate the project.

• Work with the London Development and Volunteering Officer to monitor and evaluate delivery of the Jack Petchey progarmme.

• Work with the Clubs Leagues and Schools Manager, and Head of Development and Volunteering to support work around schools and young people and act as a link with the new Schools Committee established in 2017.

• Work with the Coaching and Education Manager to ensure that there is appropriate training and resources in place for schools and young people.

• Revitalise the Schools offer to provide attractive and exciting opportunities for schools to increase participation

• Work with staff to deliver programmes or products that can improve experiences or increase participation amongst young people.

• Produce newsletters, website articles and programme material to promote key projects and initiatives.

• Act as an ambassador and advocate of Table Tennis England.

• Undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of Table Tennis England.

Person Specification/Key Skills

Previous Experience

• Experience of working with schools and young people.

• An understanding of sports development structures and agencies.

• Experience of managing projects, producing and implementing development plans and keeping to set budgets.

• Experience of partnership working.

• An understanding of working with sports clubs and volunteers (experience desirable)

Personal Attributes and Skills

• An interest in working within the not for profit sector

• IT literate, able to use the basic tools in word, excel, outlook and powerpoint.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate

• A team player, able to work effectively across all parts of the organisation and with relevant external partners to achieve goals

• A good eye for detail

• An ability to plan, prioritise and organise

• A high level of energy, drive and creativity to follow through on plans and projects

• Willing to work occassional extended hours and unsociable hours

• Access to a car and the ability to drive to events and meetings outside of the office.
