Head of Mental Health
Salary: £54,138 - £67,406 per annum
Location: The normal place of work will be an EIS site, the preference is for the successful candidate to be based at one of the following English Institute of Sport (EIS) Performance Centres; Loughborough University, the Manchester Institute of Health & Performance, or Bisham Abbey.
Role Summary
The aim of the Head of Mental Health is to provide strategic leadership and operational delivery of the UK High Performance System Mental Health strategy. The post-holder will be a highly influential and a collaborative professional; a respected figure in promoting and supporting positive mental Health for athletes, coaches, support staff and other key groups operating in the High Performance System.
This role will be accountable for the delivery of the Mental Health Strategy. The post-holder will work in close partnership with National Governing Body World Class Programmes, UK Sport and across the EIS to coordinate and deliver both; positive mental health initiatives, and reactive mental health services.
In particular, the role will need to work in close partnership with a mental health clinical panel appointed to support the delivery of the Mental Health Strategy.
The role will ensure a dedicated focus, intensity, agility and clarity in the delivery of the Mental Health Strategy. The post-holder will support World Class Programmes to develop and implement practical, best practice resources, educational materials, polices and processes that can be adopted at the frontline to manage mental health risks and opportunities within High Performance operating environments.
Main Tasks and Activities
Lead implementation and operational delivery of the High Performance System Mental Health Strategy reporting to the EIS Director of Athlete Health.
Collaborate with World Class Programmes and the High Performance System Mental Health Steering Group to deliver the strategy across 4 key Pillars; Education, Provision, Communication and Assurance.
Develop best practice mental health guidelines, frameworks, educational resources, policies and process that can be rapidly adopted system-wide and embedded effectively by World Class Programmes.
Liaise with other Home Countries Sports Institutes to ensure sharing of expertise and best practice resources, and a coherent approach to world class mental health service delivery across the UK.
Work collaboratively with the High Performance System Mental Health Steering Group, reporting progress to the EIS, UK Sport, Government and the World Class Programme Performance Directors Strategic Group.
Inform the EIS and UK Sport about the long-term-term mental health provision for the High Performance System looking towards the Paris cycle and beyond.
