Performance Director

Salary: Competitive

Location: West Midlands

The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) is the National Governing Body for horse sports in the UK. Within the context of the World Equestrian Games taking place in 2018, one of the biggest competitions in the sporting calendar, and the build up to Tokyo 2020, the BEF is looking for a world class performance leader and manager to support the podium, podium potential and podium pathway athletes across all disciplines to achieve their potential.

The role, which reports to the chief executive officer, is about exemplary leadership. As the strategic leader of the performance strategy, the post holder will drive the BEF’s ambition to deliver milestones and targets in the next 2 years up to Tokyo and provide the foundations for 2024. The successful candidate will lead and direct the BEF’s vision to nurture a winning environment and ensure that Great Britain maintains the most advanced performance programme in the world. The Performance Director, working in partnership with British Dressage, British Eventing and British Show Jumping, will oversee the management of athletes and horses, while supporting their owners, and develop emerging talent through identifiable pathways to ensure a rich pipeline for the future. This is a challenging role within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment – both internal and external – and will require the very best in leadership skills. Creating a collaborative and supportive culture will be key to maximise alignment of both the performance pathways and athlete progression.

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage and motivate teams of people with a variety of different interests, as well as ensuring that stringent performance criteria are met. A track record of success providing leadership within the equestrian world is essential. Above all the candidate will have the desire to create a culture of collaboration and a passion to lead the team to success at Tokyo 2020 and beyond.
