Workforce Development Coordinator

Salary: £20,057 - £26,916

Location: East of England

Purpose of job

To deliver the workforce elements of the Sport England funded Core Markets programme, “Active New Communities” against an agreed delivery plan. The post holder will build and maintain strong working relationships with project partners specifically supporting the organisations and communities in which the paid and volunteer, sport and community workforce will be operating.

Principal Duties

  1. To successfully deliver the workforce development elements of the Sport England Core Markets project against an agreed delivery plan, specifically the recruitment and development of people into roles (paid or voluntary) which contribute to the sport and physical activity offer in the new communities.
  2. To secure resources, specifically successful grant applications and establishing bursaries, to support the development of the workforce to deliver new activities in the new communities.
  3. To build an understanding of local sport and physical activity needs, and interest in becoming part of the local workforce, based on partnership and particularly community engagement.
  4. To build and maintain strong working relationships with partners working in the new communities especially Local Authority Community Development Workers, the Housing Associations, Developers, the new Schools and formal and informal community groups as they are formed.
  5. To work with the variety of other local delivery partners interested in working with the new communities to support their engagement with the core market to support continued participation in sport and physical activity with a focus on the delivery of increased quantity and quality of provision based on identified need.
  6. To work with key agencies responsible for the delivery of workforce development programmes (for example formal coach education course to small business development programmes) to deliver activity in the new communities or enable access to appropriate opportunities by those keen to work in the new communities.
  7. To advocate the aims and objectives of the Active New Communities programme, building an understanding of the barriers to participation in sport and physical activity in new communities and developing strategies and resources to support work in other new communities.
  8. To support the development and implementation of marketing and communications plans, especially the effective use of social media and local communications tools as they evolve in the new communities
  9. To ensure all resources and information are used effectively and in compliance with appropriate guidelines, and to support the achievement of targets and completion of internal and external monitoring and evaluation and project reporting
  10. To support the development of cross-project working, team building and business development and continuous improvement work
  11. To support the promotion of quality standards in sport in particular equity and safeguarding.
  12. To perform any other duties and tasks which are appropriate to this role and commensurate with the grading of the post

Person Specifications

  • An up-to-date knowledge of sport and physical activity agendas and programmes
  • An understanding of workforce related aspects of sport and physical activity provision
  • An understanding of the value of insight and customer/community engagement in supporting the delivery of sport and physical activity programmes
  • Proven ability to work methodically, record progress and monitor impact
  • Good organisational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong project management skills with a proven ability to plan, manage and report against projects and budgets
  • Ability to work to targets and agreed timescales
  • Good leading and influencing skills
  • Ability to engage people and build successful, focused partnerships
  • Well developed interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proactive attitude with a strong drive and enthusiasm
  • Commitment to providing a good level of service to partners and customers
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with attention to detail
  • Commitment to the principles of equity and safeguarding children and young people and vulnerable adults in sport and the achievement of quality standards and continuous improvement
  • All round ability to use IT systems, tools and software.
  • Genuine interest in sport and an understanding of the contribution that sport and physical activity can make to people’s lives and a demonstrable desire to support this
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and personal improvement
  • Ability and willingness to work unsocial hours regularly and to travel where required
  • A good understanding of leading, instructing and coaching sport and physical activity (and perhaps holding a current NGB sports coaching or NQF Physical Activity qualification with current Appointed Persons First Aid and Safeguarding qualifications)

Special Conditions

There will be frequent requirement to work unsocial hours (evenings and weekends) and for travel around the partnership area and further afield which will necessitate the postholder having a current valid driving licence and access to a car available for work purposes with business cover insurance. There is the opportunity for the postholder to work regularly from offices in the new communities in which the project is based, and from partner offices local to these.
