Ethics and Welfare Officer

Salary: £20,000 - £26,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Location: Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, Buckinghamshire

Role Summary

Reporting to the Ethics and Welfare Manager, the Ethics and Welfare Officer will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of policies and programmes which support EH’s overall strategic aims and objectives and ensure that EH meets the required levels of governance, industry standards and legislative requirements.

Working with internal and external stakeholders, the Ethics and Welfare Officer will work across all aspects of the Code of Ethics and Behaviour, which incorporates safeguarding, inclusion and diversity and anti-doping. The Ethics and Welfare Officer will play a key part in developing Job Description – Ethics and Welfare Officer and implementing policies and their associated regulations throughout EH, its clubs and associations and into the volunteer base.

The Ethics and Welfare Officer will champion diversity and inclusion and drive initiatives to create a safe and positive environment that encompasses all aspects of safeguarding, ethics, welfare and anti-doping.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

· Work with EH colleagues to ensure EH’s commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and diversity and clean sport is reflected across the organisation and embedded across all work areas.

· Work with the Ethics and Welfare Manager to integrate and embed all elements of Safeguarding young people and adults at risk across our sport.

· Take responsibility for the implementation of the safeguarding action plan, which includes communication and support to Welfare Officers and all clubs and associations to achieve a culture that is young person centred.

· Work with the Ethics and Welfare Manager to develop and deliver relevant education and training across all work areas to clubs and associations and their members.

· Work with the Ethics and Welfare Manager and other EH Departments in the development of best practice and delivery of work relating to mental health and in support of EH’s commitment to work in relation to Duty of Care.

· Work with other members of the Ethics and Welfare and Events Team to organise engagement opportunities at national, regional and county level to support clubs and associations.

· Take responsibility for managing day to day safeguarding enquiries and managing the development of good practice guidance.

· Assist with the development and implementation of new policies and associated regulations.

· Assist the Ethics and Welfare Manager in working towards the achievement of the Diversity Action Plan.

· Take responsibility for the delivery of EH’s Anti-Doping education and training plans, supporting the commitment to clean sport.

· Review elements of EH’s Code of Ethics and Behaviour and Regulations as directed by the Ethics and Welfare Manager.

· In conjunction with the Ethics and Welfare Manager review existing plans and develop action plans and strategies for ensuring that the business meets legislative and industry standards.

· Carry out research and attend workshops as required.

· Support and deputise in the Ethics and Welfare Manager’s absence.

· Work with internal and external partners, including, but not exclusively: NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU), Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), UK Anti – Doping (UKAD), The Sport and Recreation Alliance, Sport England, UK Sport, The Anne Craft Trust, Mind, English Institute of Sport (EIS), English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS), Sporting Equals to deliver effective programmes.

· Ad hoc administrative work on EH’s governance issues and any other reasonable management request.

Qualifications and Experience

· High levels of numeracy and literacy and the intellectual capacity and flexibility to cope with the work involved

· Experience and understanding of one or more of the following areas safeguarding, inclusion and diversity and anti-doping matters in sport.

· Demonstrated experience in engaging with people of various cultural and working backgrounds

· Experience in the development and implementation of policies and procedures

· Experience of delivering training programmes

· Experience of obtaining feedback from customers and stakeholders

· Good knowledge and understanding of current legislation

· Strong IT knowledge and experience

· Full UK Driving Licence

Skills and abilities

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both as a team leader and player

· High sense of integrity and trust, with the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues

· Excellent verbal and written communication and platform skills; ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organisation
