Workforce Development Officer

Salary: £18,000 - £22,000

Contract: 1 Year (future years subject to funding)

Work Hours: Full time (some weekend and evening work is required)

Background

Goalball is a Paralympic sport played by visually impaired and blind people. Goalball UK was formed in 2010 after the successful delivery of the World Championships in Sheffield. Awareness of Goalball in the UK has grown by over 325% in the last 4 years off the back of Sport England’s Whole Sport Plan. We are now moving forward in the delivery of our 2ndSport England Plan for 2017-2021 the focus of increasing grass roots participation, getting more inactives active and club development.   

Purpose

The main purpose of the role is to increase and develop the current workforce in the goalball community which includes volunteers, coaches and officials across the UK. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in workforce development, you do not need previous experience in disability sport or working with people with sightloss. All training and CPD opportunities will be given as required.

· To increase the opportunities to volunteer in goalball.

· Development of current Goalball UK workforce (volunteers, coaches and officials) and creating initiatives to recruit new people.

· Develop a new volunteering strategy and increase the number of people volunteering in goalball.

· Support the delivery of Goalball UK events (weekend work).

· To support goalball clubs and community organisations to develop and promote volunteering opportunities.

· Enhance the experience of goalball volunteers (training, opportunities, recognition etc).

· Any other tasks that are required.

Skills and attributes required

· Strong interpersonal skills and a team player with the ability to encourage support and persuade others.

· Awareness of the needs and behaviours of volunteers

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong report writing skills with an ability to communicate effectively and confidently to individuals and groups.

· Ability to form positive relationships with key stakeholders.

· Self reliant, pro-active, able to take responsibility for areas of work and display initiative in solving problems.

· Strong IT Skills including microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

· Ability to write successful grant applications

· Enthusiasm and a genuine interest in this area of work, particularly in sport, coach development and working with a minority sport.

· Full and current driving licence and access to a car.
