The Alliance recognises Emeritus awards are given to individuals who have served a life-long or sustained service to sport and recreation by appointing them as honorary members of the Sport and Recreation Alliance.
However, in many cases, reward or recognition is appropriate on a single occasion rather than through perpetual individual membership of an organisation with which they may have little current contact.
For these individuals, it was agreed back in 2003 that the CCPR (now the Alliance), should have the discretion to make a small number of Emeritus Awards at the Annual General Meeting.
Dame Diana Ellis CBE – chair of British Rowing who oversaw their rise to the pinnacle of world sport and former board member of the Sport and Recreation Alliance.
Brian Lee – one of the original CCPR staff who transferred to the Sports Council, when it was established in 1972. He was a chairman of the Football Conference and also chairman and manager of Wycombe Wanderers.
Rosemary Napp – national manager of British Rowing and past chair and deputy chair of the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s water recreation division.
Brian Hyde – former chair of CCPR Enterprises Ltd 1997 – 2007 and current honorary member.
Posthumous Award to Nigel Hook – former head of policy at the Sport and Recreation Alliance.
Margaret Peggie – Alliance vice president and former chair of SportsleadersUK.
Dame Mary Peters DBE – Trustee of The Outward Bound Trust and vice president of the Northern Ireland Outward Bound Association.
