Community Sport and Recreation Awards 2012

The winners of the Sport and Recreation Alliance's Community Sport and Recreation Awards, formerly the Sports Club of the Year Awards, have been decided for 2012.

The judging panel, chaired by the BBC’s Eleanor Oldroyd, commended the quality of the shortlist and the array of outstanding projects and practices that were shown.

Entries were awarded by the Alliance to sport and recreation organisations that have excelled in areas such as volunteer management, school links, green thinking and innovative projects.

This year’s winning organisations represented a move away from the traditional categories to include a wider variety of activities, including the Chess in Schools project, which was highly commended for its innovative work in schools.

The Alliance presented the awards at its Annual General Meeting in July, where the winners and highly commended will be presented their award by HRH The Earl of Wessex.
