CCPR welcomes ticket touting consultation

CCPR welcomes the publication today of a Department of Culture, Media and Sport consultation on ticket touting. The consultation seeks agreement on the best way to improve the ticketing market for the benefit of consumers. As tickets for sports events are widely sold on secondary markets, often at grossly inflated prices, the consultation will give sport an opportunity to have its say.

Tim Lamb, chief executive of CCPR, said:

"The consultation is a very welcome and timely contribution to the debate. It will give sport the opportunity to re-iterate that the secondary market as it stands takes tickets out of the price league of genuine fans and can create security concerns at venues. Ministers are right to be concerned that the status quo is doing a disservice to genuine sports fans.

"This is the last opportunity for those involved in the secondary market to show that they can clean up their act and help ensure that tickets for sporting events reach the people they are priced to reach."
