Non-Executive Directors x3

The Sport and Recreation Alliance believes that the power of sport and recreation can change lives and bring communities together. Together with our members and in partnership with the wider sector, we make the most of opportunities and tackle the areas that provide a challenge. We provide advice, support and guidance to our members, who are national governing bodies of games and sport, county sports partnerships, outdoor pursuits, water recreation and movement and dance exercise. As the voice of the sector we work with Government, policy makers and the media, to make sure grassroots sport and recreation grows and thrives.

Having an active nation is important as it delivers huge benefits to society and the millions of participants, volunteers, staff and spectators.  You can find out more on our new strategy: The Heart of An Active Nation from our website.

We wish to appoint TWO non-executive Directors, for an initial three-year term, and are now inviting expressions of interest.

In addition, we will be appointing a third non-executive Director for a one year term, to fill a casual vacancy.

There has never been a better time to positively impact the wellbeing of people up and down the country. Sport and recreation organisations are uniquely placed to help the disadvantaged, socially excluded, isolated and support people in their mental and physical wellbeing.

We are interested in leaders from all walks of life and want to hear from you if you have experience in one or more of the following areas:

· Health sector

· Employment/HR issues

· Local government/regional issues

· Understanding of wider recreational activities

· Volunteering

· Finance/Budget control

· Communications and Marketing

And if you are excited about/can demonstrate:

· Creative and strategic thinking that challenges/refines conventional ways the sector has operated;

· Using your skills to constructively challenge group thinking and potential inhibiters to change at a national level;

· Making a clear commitment to improving diversity and equality and understanding the needs of under-represented groups in sport and recreation;

· The potential of the UK’s sport and recreation landscape to change lives for the better.

A track record of leadership and operating at Board level in the private, public or voluntary sector is helpful but not essential.

We value diversity throughout our organisation and through our Equality and Diversity Policy are striving for a more diverse Board of Directors.  We are specifically looking to improve the female gender balance and ethnic diversity of our board. As well as welcoming applications from everyone, we are particularly keen to encourage women, candidates from BAME groups and with disabilities to apply.

We will pay Directors’ travel expenses and provide a full induction to the organisation’s work.  You will be expected to attend at least six Board meetings a year, which are normally held at the Alliance’s offices in Central London.  In addition, we would encourage your attendance at a number of Alliance meetings and events.
