Seasonal Yacht Mate
Marine Society and Sea Cadets (MSSC) is the nation’s largest maritime charity and the governing charity of the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), a civilian voluntary youth organisation comprising some 400 or so volunteer Sea Cadet Units, throughout the UK.
The SCC offers a wide range of youth opportunities with the same enduring objective – to foster good citizenship in the community.
We are currently seeking a seasonal mate for the two offshore yachts, TS City Liveryman and TS Vigilant, to support the permanent skippers and provide continuity of staffing when they are on leave.
This appointment will commence on 1 February 2013 with an end date of 30 November 2013 and includes a generous pre-allocated leave allowance.
The mate will be required to move between the two yachts, particularly to support relief skippers.
The mate should be qualified to at least RYA Coastal Skipper Practical level, (certificate preferred), and be willing to participate in all aspects of training and vessel management, including cooking and cleaning.
Applicants should either hold a current Seafarer Medical Certificate (ML5/ENG1), or be willing to obtain one.
Successful applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced CRB check, if not already cleared through the MSSC.
Basic Safety Training Courses (unless already held) will be undertaken before the season commences.
