PRS consultation on sports club music licence tariffs
The Alliance has worked hard to get a new proposed tariff for sports clubs- but we need your help to check that it’s right. It’s a simple consultation which can be filled in very quickly by clubs. There is just one response section in the consultation which you can write as much or as little as you want!
The current proposal means that fees are proportionate to membership and are heavily reduced if the club does not have a social area.
The full tariff can be found at the end of the PRS consultation.
You can reply on line or by email to customer.consultation@prsformusic.com
We would also like to know your thoughts; if you want to copy your response to us too at policy@sportandrecreation.org.uk we can then discuss them in full with PRS after the consultation.
Consultation questions guidance notes:
1. Do you agree that a separate tariff for ASCs is required
We believe non-profit amateur sports clubs should have a better tariff than commercial properties.
2. a) Do you agree with the use of a sliding scale based on a club’s membership to charge background music?
We believe that a tariff based on membership is easier to work with than identifying different types of music usage. For small clubs or those with no social area, the tariff should be ideal- but if you think the tariff will be too much for your club, you have to let PRS know!
b) If not, what alternatives do you think would be fair?
Let PRS know about whether you think the above tariff is fair. For example, if your club does not open its bar every night, you may feel that this is a tough deal. If you club specialises in junior participation you may think the tariff being linked to a social area is unfair. Let PRS know if you think any reduced rates would be fairer and why.
3. a) What do you think about the proposal to offer a bundle of unlimited featured events?
We believe that certain clubs will enjoy the benefit of the reduced bureaucracy of an all-you-can-eat licence. Offering the choice seems sensible as it does not add complexity to the tariff.
b) How will this affect your club?
Let PRS know.
c) Do you prefer to pay on a per event basis?
Let PRS know.
4. Do you have any comments regarding the reduced minimum charge (£42) to fall in line with our community buildings tariff?
The £42 minimum fee is much improved on the current £91 for a single radio.
5. Do you have any further comments?
This will be your chance to tell PRS what you think- so let them know.
