Head of Coach Development

Sunderland AFC are looking to recruit a Head of Coach Development to join their Youth Development team, based at the Academy of Light which holds EPPP Category 1 status.

Reporting to the Academy Manager the post is a permanent full-time position, working 40 hours per week Monday to Sunday, including weekends and evenings as required.

The successful candidate will join this busy department and will be primarily responsible for establishing a sustainable system and approach to coach development plus the development of coaches so they improve and perform to the best of their potential having the ability to maximise the potential of players they work with.

A team player, the successful candidate will work alongside colleagues to support all areas of the academy, to design and deliver development programmes based on the Academy Performance Plan.  Communication skills are also key, as you will be working alongside football staff and players at a variety of levels.

Other key responsibilities of the role will include:

· Accountability for own personal growth, undertaking self-development to ensure knowledge in relation to all aspects of coaching and coach development is up-to-date and forward thinking; building relationships throughout the Academy and broader Club

· Provide clear, up-to-date training needs analysis of every individual coach’s current and required level of performance; observing performance and providing feedback to aid development

· Ensure every coach has a personalised development action plan that is tailored to meet their needs and which they buy-in to as a ‘living’ document

· Work with coaches to develop their abilities and potential

· Ensure coaches hold required qualifications and up-to-date licensing

· Ensure all coaching staff are working effectively as part of a Multidisciplinary Team and can identify and understand the benefits of such

· Ensure the Academy’s Coaching Curriculum is consistently delivered in line with the Academy’s (and/or Clubs’) Playing Philosophy and Coaching Philosophy

· Contribute to the development of an elite learning environment

· Implement a Club Specific Coach Competency Framework to monitor and evaluate coaches to develop action plans and development opportunities

Working in football is demanding and candidates should relish working under pressure and to tight deadlines. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute straight away in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate should have experience of working in a minimum of three of the following areas: football coaching, people development, mentoring/coaching, education, elite learning, high performance environment. Knowledge of at least three of the following is also essential; process of learning in coaches, process of learning in young people, running and designing development programmes, football, leading/managing a team and psychology.
