Head of Commercial and Marketing

Directly Responsible To: Chief Executive

Directly Responsible For:  Developing and driving the implementation of the commercial, marketing and partnership strategies.

Hours of Duty: 36 hours a week with a need to work outside of normal office hours.

PRIMARY PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

· The post holder plays a pivotal part in helping MTT achieve greater business sustainability by the identification and execution of opportunities to maximise returns from the Plas y Brenin brand.  They will have a significant role in business transformation, placing a much greater emphasis on commercial activity to ensure we achieve our goal of reaching an operationally sustainable position within 3-5 years. Additionally, they have responsibility to elevate the Plas y Brenin brand through the development  of integrated  marketing techniques,  effective external and internal communications and identifying and nurturing  impactful relationships directly with key strategic and business stakeholders.

· The Head of Commercial and Marketing is a key strategic position that will define, direct and lead a commercial and marketing strategies that underpins business achievements and objectives. The post holder will attract new companies for discussion around potential partnerships, engage brands within new product categories and increase investment and return by developing and maximising the Plas y Brenin brand.   This will include driving better value from existing partnerships and further develop the partnership portfolio. They will also oversee a small team, ensuring the delivery of a data driven marketing strategy supported by high quality and compelling communications. This will involve overseeing the development and delivery of first class customer (individual and business) acquisition and retention strategies. This is an essential position to deliver business growth and elevate our intent in regards to sector and thought leadership.

· They are required to work closely with the other members of the senior management team, work with and provide exceptional leadership to all direct reports, assist the Chief Executive in ensuring we have a high performing organisation and engage effectively with key business stakeholders.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

· The primary focus is an external one although the post holder will work across the business to ensure the commercial and business opportunities are realised. This will include liaison with the Chief Executive, other members of the management team and key personnel and management of a small team. They will build an extensive partnership network, effectively engaging a diverse range of stakeholders to achieve agreed objectives. This will include current trade partnerships, key industry personnel and organisations and individuals that can help us deliver the business plan growth.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

· Working with other members of the Senior Management Team to identify and drive business development opportunities and raise the profile of Plas y Brenin.

· Develop and deliver a commercial  strategy, to include having lead responsibility for delivering maximum value from existing partnerships and exploring and securing new partnerships, ventures and activities that are aligned with and have direct relevance to the business and its associated activities.

· Responsible for securing a tangible investment from the partnership programme via a mix of cash, marketing-in-kind and value-in-kind, directly contributing to business plan targets. To include ensuring efficient working practices to provide effective client servicing. The post holder will design and implement a formal sponsorship structure and ensure adoption of partnership templates to maximise value for both our partners and Plas y Brenin.

· Ensure the necessary legal requirements are in place to underpin business development, to include intellectual property (IP), trademarks and copyright. To include undertaking activities that a) protect b) extend and c) commercialise the organisation's IP.

· Lead responsibility for the generation of increased revenues from retail on-site and online, both directly and indirectly. Requires close working with other members of the senior management team.

· Work with the Head of Business Performance and Finance to set, deliver, monitor and review performance against the annual business plan, ensuring continued improvements to the organisation’s financial and business performance.

· Develop and oversee the management of a brand strategy including the development of a strong visual identity, consistent narrative and agreed brand values which shape all business functions.  

· Work with and support the Marketing and Communications Manager to develop an effective and creative marketing and communication   strategy and associated operational plans that are progressive, innovative and support organisational growth.

· To produce a range of strategic, operational and management reports, to include providing regular updates to the MTT board on commercial, business development and marketing activities.

· Effective line management of staff, adopting a consistent and fair approach. To include overseeing the commercial and marketing functions, ensuring the recruitment, deployment and management of staff resources to provide a highly efficient and high quality services for our customers.  Provide clear direction to direct reports, motivating and supporting colleagues, advising and providing constructive feedback. Address areas of under-performance as required and in accordance with agreed policies. Ensure job specific training.

· To work with the Head of Business Performance and Finance in ensuring that budgets set are adhered to, plans are deliverable and all spend is tracked and evaluated across the Commercial and Marketing function.

· To be an effective member of the senior management team, acting as a role model for all employees and be an ambassador for the company in all external engagements. To include working collectively to identify and address areas of under-performance and concern as well as highlighting areas of excellence and achievement. Support direct reports and other managers to ensure the day-to-day running of the company is robust, compliant and effective, with opportunities for improvement regularly considered and implemented.

· Attend meeting appropriate to the role, ensuring the professional representation of the charity at all times. Be an ambassador for the company in all external engagements.

· Deputise for the CEO as required and, on occasions, provide Duty Manager cover.

This may include a requirement to undertake additional training and / or personal development.

Person Specification

This post requires a natural communicator and leader, with a penchant for networking and building partnerships. Clear grasp for business, with a proven track record in delivering growth. The post holder will take pride in playing a leading role in enhancing the company's performance, and be comfortable with operating to targets in a changing working environment.
