Head of Philanthropy (Maternity Cover)

Salary: £48,000 - £58,000 (dependent on experience) 

Contract: Fixed Term (1 Year Maternity Cover) – commencing mid August 2017

Location: London based at British Paralympic Association (“BPA”) headquarters at 60 Charlotte Street, London W1T 2NU

Job Purpose

This role will play an integral part in delivering our ambitious Philanthropy plans, to fund the ParalympicsGB’s teams involvement in the upcoming Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang 2018, Tokyo 2020 Games and beyond.

As the Philanthropy lead and expert within the organisation, and a key member of our Commercial team, you will be responsible for: raising 5 to 7 figure donations against ambitious income targets; identifying and initiating relationships with prospective donors and senior volunteers; as well as working closely with members of the BPA Board and Senior Leadership Team.

The successful post holder will also drive and further develop the Philanthropy strategy for the upcoming Paralympic Games in PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020.

Key Responsibilities 

· To lead on raising income, against an agreed target, with a focus on securing 5 to 7 figure donations from major donors and trusts/foundations, with a specific emphasis on supporting activity around the PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. 

· Responsible for the leadership, management and effective delivery of the BPA’s Philanthropy fundraising strategy in the context of achieving Games specific objectives.

· Responsible for the development of the operational plan for the future expansion of the Philanthropy team in 2018.

· Responsible for the delivery of the Philanthropy prospecting strategy - identifying and bringing new prospects to the Philanthropy prospect pool. This activity to be done in conjunction with the wider Commercial prospecting strategy.

· To work in collaboration with the BPA Board and other Senior Volunteers to identify potential donors and ensure the most effective approaches are made to secure funds.

· To develop and implement a calendar of cultivation and stewardship events 2017/18 – one of which to be with our Royal Patron, working in collaboration with the BPA’s Event Manager. 

· To utilize the Philanthropy case for support and potential funding opportunities to develop the content and design of the BPA’s first Philanthropy brochure.

· Lead on the development of Philanthropy materials and content for the organisations new website.

· To drive and manage the Philanthropy VIP programme for key donors at the Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang 2018.

· To develop and implement solicitation and stewardship plans for the BPA’s portfolio of donors and prospects.

· Contribute to the Commercial team’s wider annual planning and reporting process, providing regular progress reports against objectives, ensuring high standards of accountability.

· To maintain written and electronic records of donor contact histories, in compliance with data protection legislation.

· To manage and report against the agreed Philanthropy income and expenditure budgets.

· To develop strong relationships with key senior internal and external stakeholders involved with the BPA. 

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

· Proven and demonstrable experience of soliciting gifts at 5 to 7 figure level

· Strong track record of achieving challenging financial targets

· Proven track record of major gift fundraising in the not-for-profit sector or similar transferable experience gained in the commercial sector

· Strong knowledge and implementation of the principles of major gift fundraising to include identification, research, solicitation and stewardship

· Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Fundraising Regulator standards for charitable fundraising, ensuring that all fundraising is respectful, open, honest and accountable to the public

· Proven experience of building long-term relationships with High Level individual stakeholders

· Strong track record of managing High Level Influencers/Senior Volunteers effectively

· Proven experience of managing and working with Senior Leadership teams effectively

· Excellent negotiation skills and ability to influence people at all levels

· Ability to work both independently and collegially with a wide range of people both internally and externally

· Proficiency in using a relational database to manage major donor prospects.

Desirable

· An understanding of the national and international issues that impact upon the BPA.

· Knowledge of, and passion for sport.

· Knowledge of and passion for improving opportunities for disabled people.
