Executive (Equality and Safeguarding)

Job Share - 3 days per week 

Role: 12 month’s maternity cover

Location: Based at our new HQ near Stoneleigh, Warwickshire 

Purpose

To be the Society’s “authority” on issues relating to equality and safeguarding children, responsible for all communication, training and policies regarding these issues and to liase and work with BEF members 

Key Responsibilities: 

Communication and Building relationships:

  • Liase with BEF, Member Bodies, Sport England, Sports Coach UK and other agencies/relevant bodies with regard to issues surrounding equality, diversity, safeguarding children, safeguarding adults and Criminal Record Checks
  • Attend regular sport industry meetings on subjects of Safeguarding and Equality
  • Keep abreast of current and new legislation (E.O. and child protection legislation) and ensure BEF and other member bodies are made aware of this
  • Communicate with internal departments and advisory groups regarding all safeguarding children and equality policies
  • Advise and assist BEF member bodies and other equine groups regarding all issues
  • Working with BEF to accredit, update and maintain Safeguarding course.
  • Writing articles for British Horse, additional publications and press releases when required
  • Lead on Criminal record checks

Administration

  • Draft relevant policies for approval from the Director of Participation and ensure implementation of these polices throughout BHS and British Riding Clubs membership and internal departments
  • Ensure the quality assurance of above courses, attending some courses making recommendations for improvement
  • Liaise with course tutors to ensure they are provided with all relevant information; e.g. any changes to the content and any other needs are met
  • Arrange continual professional development days for Safeguarding tutors and help to recruit new tutors when necessary
  • Lead on the administration of the volunteer and coach online course (when available) including content, bookings and liaising with BEF member bodies.

Financial

  • Control expenditure of grants received from BEF

General

  • Dealing with telephone and email enquiries
  • Represent the BHS at external meetings as and when required
  • Undertake any other duties as required by line manager  

Projects

  • Attend BEF Steering group meetings and implement tasks as and when required
  • Sharing and developing good practice; write policy, FAQs, resources and BHS guidelines
  • Act as point of contact for Club and Centre Safeguarding officers and other BEF member bodies when dealing with disclosures regarding safeguarding children and adults
  • Liase with external agencies when necessary e.g. police and social services
  • Keep accurate and confidential records of any disclosures
  • Available to act as a member of case management group and/or disciplinary committee or an investigating officer in a Safeguarding investigation

Criminal records checks

  • Responsibility for the smooth running of CR checks by acting as a DBS and PVG countersignatory for all Member Bodies, Approved Centres, Riding Clubs and external organisations
  • Continue to edit, design and effectively manage DBS/PVG database and online system
  • Attend external meetings with regard to DBS/PVG
  • Advise on policy and legislation to Approved Centres, Riding Clubs and Accredited Coaches

Person Specification:

  • Excellent knowledge of appropriate legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly organised approach to work
  • Driving licence and own transport essential
  • Experience of administrative work, including Microsoft Office and databases
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including telephone and face to face
  • Understanding of customer service, including dealing with members of the public and customers, with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload
  • Confident manner and able to use own initiative to solve problems
  • Organised, flexible and adaptable
