Board Member

Salary: Voluntary (expenses reimbursed)

Location: Loughborough

Job Summary

There has never been a better time to join our charity as a Board member for the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS). The organisation has moved on in leaps and bounds since our beginnings 20 years ago.

EFDS has not only improved its financial status but increased the programmes and partnerships making waves across different sectors. Our new strategy needs dynamic Board members to turn our vision into reality.

We realise the image of Board members can often be of older people who have the time and sometimes the money to donate to charities. It can put off some people from applying.

EFDS is not stereotypical.

Our current Board has expertise in the commercial, sport development, disability and the education sector. They are a mixture of older and young people with a passion for change. They are disabled and non-disabled people, who come together six times a year. The Board meetings are professional, informative and often fun! Our Board enjoy their time making active lives possible alongside our enthusiastic staff team.

It does not matter if you have never been a Board member before - it is not a deciding factor! It is your skills that are important, not necessarily your lifelong experience. We need people who are highly respected and have authoritative voices in the fields of finance and governance, or perhaps you are a successful fundraiser or have experience in business development.

EFDS is looking for exceptional individuals to join the Board and ensure active lives become a reality for more disabled people. We want EFDS to be representative of a wide range of diverse populations across all our teams, including our Board. The nature of our work means we actively encourage more disabled people to apply, to bring lived experience to the table and strengthen our insight.

Amongst applicants there could be a future Chair as we are also looking for a dynamic individual to succeed our current Chair, Charles Reed, in September 2018.

It’s a big ask but we know the perfect person for our board is out there.  We just want you to apply.
