Independent Non-Executive Director

Voluntary role- Travel expenses payable

The Angling Trust is seeking independent non-executive directors, due to the scheduled retirement of existing board members.  The Trust strives to ensure that the Board has a truly independent profile and is keen to increase the diversity of its Directors.  In particular the Trust is looking for people who will help to develop its business model and have skills in sales and marketing and membership organisations

The Angling Trust Ltd. is the English National Governing Body and unified representative organisation for coarse, game and sea angling in England and Wales. It has a wide ranging role which includes:

· Campaigning and lobbying to protect the water environment, fish stocks and anglers’ rights

· Promoting participation in angling, particularly to under-represented groups and people from deprived backgrounds

· Organising competitions at a national and international level.

The Trust and its closely-linked organisation Fish Legal currently turn over about £2.5 million each year, which will increase due to our wide ranging initiatives over the next five years.

The Trust is looking to recruit a number of new Directors who will continue to bring a fresh perspective to the Board.

There are quarterly Board meetings and each director usually sits on at least one committee, with each committee also sitting quarterly.  Board meetings are held in London.  Occasionally there will be a need to meet in the evenings or at weekends.  These are voluntary roles; directors are not remunerated, but travel expenses are payable.  Board Directors are appointed for a 3 year term with eligibility for a second three year term.

Angling Trust is an equal opportunities employer. We would particularly welcome nominations from individuals representing groups currently under-represented on our board: women, minority ethnic, and disabled people.  An interest in sports development, membership organisations or environmental issues would be an advantage. We would welcome applications/nominations from people with no knowledge of angling but strategic management experience from another sector.

How to apply

Applicants should send a current CV or a personal statement giving a description of the skills, knowledge and attributes you would bring to the Boardroom, marked “Personal” to Georgina Miller, Company Secretary, Angling Trust, Eastwood House, 6 Rainbow Street, Leominster, HR6 8DQ; or email Georgina.miller@anglingtrust.net

Closing date for applications 16 June 2017.
