Board Chair

Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP) is looking to appoint a new Chair to lead the organisation and its next stage development and the delivery of the new Sport England Strategy.

WASP is focused on helping people and communities across the County increase their involvement in sport and physical activity and we are looking for someone who can provide leadership to both the organisation and its partners to achieve this aim.

WASP is a Community Interest Company (CIC) and one of 45 County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) covering England WASP working closely with national and local partners to deliver national policy at a local level.

The Chair will be will be responsible for developing WASPs leadership to achieve challenging strategic and business aims.  The Chair will build external relations, ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the Board and build strong relationship with partners.

The Chair will support the Chief Executive and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with partners to achieve agreed objectives. In partnership with the Chief Executive the Chair will act as an ambassador and the public face of the WASP

The Chair will lead and hold the Board and CEO to account for their work, ensuring that each Board member fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective and robust governance in line with the new expectations for sporting bodies.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Chair meetings of the Board effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision making process and ensuring a focus on strategy, performance against the strategy, added-value and accountability

· Ensure that the Board meets its duties and responsibilities for the effective governance including a clear delegation of matters where appropriate

· Provide leadership to Wiltshire and Swindon Sport and its Board ensuring that the Board sets the overall strategic direction

· Appraise the performance of the CEO, Board and its members on an annual basis and act on the outcomes

· Establish and build a strong, effective and constructive working relationships with national and local partners

· Be the Board’s first point of contact for Sport England and other key stakeholders
